Legislative Page ProgramThe Legislative Page Program in the Idaho Senate and House of Representatives is for high school seniors only (between the ages of 17-19 in the Senate). Students apply in the summer and fall for placement in the upcoming legislative session. A committee of legislators reviews all applications in early December, and notification of acceptance is made by mail. ResponsibilitiesPages perform a variety of duties under the supervision of the Sergeant at Arms. Duties include maintaining Senate and House bill books and Journal binders, delivering messages, running errands, making copies, and assisting the legislators and staff in office and committee meetings. How to ApplyApplications are available from the Senate or House of Representatives. To request a Senate page application, contact the office of the Secretary of the Senate at 208/332-1309. For a House application, contact the Speaker's Office at 208/332-1111. Senate applications are due no later than November 15; House applications must be submitted by November 24. Because an Idaho senator or representative must sponsor your application, we suggest that you can contact one of the legislators in the district where you reside to request their support. Legislative SessionThe regular legislative session convenes on the Monday closest to the 9th day of January and continues until the Legislature adjourns sine die (final adjournment), usually in mid to late March. The regular session is divided in two sections for pages: the first half is January to the middle of February; the second half is from the middle of February through sine die. Each group serves five to six weeks. Legislative pages must have special written permission from their school administrator to be excused from classes. A letter of approval must be sent with the students completed application, along with the name of the school principal and advisor. This information must be sent before arrival in Boise. Completion of TermEach page is expected to complete the length of time stated in their letter of acceptance because of the workload organized at the beginning of the session. A letter of recommendation will not be sent if the term is not completed. Only illness or family emergency would constitute an early release from this commitment. Code of ConductIn compliance with Idaho State law, the Legislature has a ZERO tolerance policy regarding the use of tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs. Therefore, while serving in the Idaho Legislature, a violation of this policy may result in immediate dismissal.
