The Information Technology Department (IT) is the primary technology support group for the Department of Legislative Services and the Idaho State Legislature. The services provided by the IT group include design, development, maintenance, and support of custom legislative systems such as legislative drafting, bill status, and chamber automation. IT supports over 300 personal computers in the State Legislature and within the Legislative Services Office. We also operate a legislative data center including NT, Linux, and Novell servers, in addition to supporting other related facilities.

Information Technology also maintains the Legislature's comprehensive computer network, which links all legislative and staff offices, and supports other legislative technology initiatives. The Information Technology staff has developed a training room, and a program which offers specialized instruction to legislators, committee secretaries and the staff of the Legislative Services Office to ensure that the computer facilities available are effectively utilized. Idaho legislators have access to personal computers and laptops to assist them in their daily business, and these systems are upgraded and maintained by Information Technology.

Application Development staff is responsible for providing and maintaining custom computer application solutions for the Legislature which includes analyzing, designing, integrating systems, programming, training and implementation. These seasoned professionals have specialized in various platforms, such as IBM mainframe, Linux and Windows and have created custom applications utilizing JAVA, XML, Visual Basic, C, C++, PHP, SQL and COBOL programming languages which access databases, such as Oracle, MS Access, VSAM and ADABAS, for the retrieval and storage of data.
