Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                     STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                            RS09411

Of the 1721 bridges on the state highway system, only a few are of such magnificent structure or
historical significance to warrant a name to recognize an event or person playing an important
part in Idaho's history.

The Perrine bridge, as it is locally known meets the criteria for structural significance and
historical significance. The original bridge, spanning the canyon at this same location was known
as the "I.B. Perrine" bridge. The present replacement bridge, begun in 1973, spanning 1,500 feet
from rim to rim and 480 feet above the Snake River has a number (#17580) but no name. People
in Jerome County and Twin Falls County call the bridge "Perrine" for the principal founder of
the area. The bridge should be memorialized as the "I.B. Perinne Bridge."

                          FISCAL NOTE

Negligible, except for the costs to erect, two(2)signs at either end. Estimated to be less than $500.
