HOUSE BILL NO. 692, As Amended

1 AN ACT
2 RELATING TO STATE EMPLOYEES; AMENDING CHAPTER 53, TITLE 67, IDAHO CODE, BY THE
3 ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 67-5338, IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE PAID LEAVE FOR
4 AN EMPLOYEE WHO IS A CERTIFIED DISASTER SERVICES VOLUNTEER TO PERFORM CER-
5 TAIN VOLUNTEER SERVICES.
6 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
7 SECTION 1. That Chapter 53, Title 67, Idaho Code, be, and the same is
8 hereby amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des-
9 ignated as Section 67-5338, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
10 67-5338. RED CROSS DISASTER SERVICES. An employee of the state of Idaho,
11 who is a certified disaster service volunteer, shall be granted paid leave for
12 an aggregate of up to one hundred twenty (120) work hours, consecutively or
13 nonconnectively, in any twelve (12) month period to participate in disaster
14 relief services for the American red cross. Such leave shall be limited to
15 services related to a disaster of level III, or higher, upon the declaration
16 of the governor or the president of the United States, and shall be in the
17 state of Idaho or a state contiguous to the state of Idaho. The request shall
18 be in writing from an official of the American red cross for such employee's
19 services. Leave for disaster services shall be in addition to other paid leave
20 or vacation time provided to employees. Part-time employees shall be entitled
21 to leave under this section based on the proportion they work of a forty (40)
22 hour week.

1 AMENDMENT TO SECTION 1
2 On page 1 of the printed bill, in line 12, delete "fifteen (15) work days"
3 and insert: "one hundred twenty (120) work hours".
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

This legislation will allow a state employee, who has been trained and certified as
a Red Cross disaster service volunteer, a paid leave when called to participate in
disaster relief service.

No additional General Fund moneys would have to be appropriated.
