Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                          STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

                               RS 10557

SB 1530 was enacted by the 2000 legislature to limit to five (5)
the number of persons in one vehicle for whom noncommercial
transportation provides could charge the Medicaid program.
The proposed legislation extends the effective period of the law
to June 30, 2002, and clarifies what constitutes a violation of the
law and the sanctions that apply.

                             FISCAL IMPACT

The proposed legislation, in conjunction with other cost saving
measures related to transportation, is estimated to save approximately
$724,000.
