1 AN ACT
2 RELATING TO LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT CENTRAL COMMITTEES; AMENDING SECTION 34-503,
3 IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE THAT THE PRECINCT COMMITTEEMEN WITHIN EACH LEGISLA-
4 TIVE DISTRICT SHALL MEET WITHIN THE LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT OR AT A CONVE-
5 NIENT LOCATION IN A COUNTY CONTIGUOUS TO THE LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT, WITHIN
6 ELEVEN DAYS AFTER THE PRIMARY ELECTION.
7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
8 SECTION 1. That Section 34-503, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby
9 amended to read as follows:
10 34-503. LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT CENTRAL COMMITTEE -- MEMBERSHIP -- OFFICERS.
11 The legislative district central committee of each political party in each
12 legislative district shall consist of the precinct committeemen representing
13 the precincts within the legislative district, and the legislative district
14 chairman elected by the precinct committeemen. The precinct committeemen
15 within each legislative district shall meet within the legislative district or
16 at a convenient location in a county contiguous to the legislative district,
17 within eleven (11) days after the primary election, the meeting time and place
18 to be designated by the incumbent legislative district chairman. At this meet-
19 ing the precinct committeemen shall organize by electing a chairman, vice
20 chairman, a secretary and such other officers as they may desire, who shall
21 hold office at the pleasure of the legislative district central committee or
22 until their successors are elected.
23 Unless state party rules, adopted as provided in section 34-506, Idaho
24 Code, provide otherwise, when a vacancy exists in the office of legislative
25 district central committee chairman, it shall be the duty of the state central
26 committee chairman to call a meeting of the precinct committeemen of the leg-
27 islative district, and the precinct committeemen shall proceed to elect a
28 chairman of the legislative district central committee for the balance of the
29 unexpired term.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS 15897
This legislation would allow legislative district central
committees to meet in a contiguous county to the district to
accommodate a central location where none exists within the
district.
