2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND REQUESTING THE IDAHO STATE BOARD OF
3 EDUCATION TO CONDUCT A STUDY OF PERSONNEL ISSUES AND CHALLENGES FACING
4 IDAHO'S INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION INCLUDING THE AREAS OF RECRUIT-
5 MENT AND RETENTION, AND TO REPORT ITS FINDINGS TO THE COMMERCE AND HUMAN
6 RESOURCES COMMITTEES AND EDUCATION COMMITTEES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTA-
7 TIVES AND THE SENATE DURING THE FIRST REGULAR SESSION OF THE FIFTY-NINTH
8 IDAHO LEGISLATURE.
9 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
10 WHEREAS, the Legislature acknowledges the importance of an educated citi-
11 zenry and work force as essential to Idaho's economy and the well-being of its
12 citizens; and
13 WHEREAS, the Legislature acknowledges the efforts of Idaho's public post-
14 secondary institutions to provide outstanding educational opportunities; and
15 WHEREAS, the Legislature acknowledges the importance of recruiting and
16 retaining highly educated, qualified and respected faculty to ensure continued
17 educational excellence at Idaho's institutions of higher education; and
18 WHEREAS, the Legislature acknowledges that Idaho's postsecondary institu-
19 tions compete nationally and internationally with other institutions when
20 recruiting and retaining faculty.
21 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses-
22 sion of the Fifty-eighth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and
23 the Senate concurring therein, that the Idaho State Board of Education is
24 hereby requested to conduct a study of personnel issues and challenges facing
25 Idaho's institutions of higher education and that such study should include
26 the areas of faculty recruitment and retention.
27 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Idaho State Board of Education shall
28 report its findings, recommendations and proposed legislation, if any, to the
29 Commerce and Human Resources Committee and the Education Committee of the
30 House of Representatives and to the Commerce and Human Resources Committee and
31 the Education Committee of the Senate during the First Regular Session of the
32 Fifty-ninth Idaho Legislature.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS 16271
This resolution acknowledges the importance of recruiting and
retaining highly educated, qualified and respected faculty to
ensure continued educational excellence at Idaho's institutions
of higher education. It requests that the Idaho State Board of
Education study the challenges facing Idaho's institutions of
higher education in the recruitment and retention of faculty and
to make recommendations.
