HCR042|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-fourth Legislature Second Regular Session - 1998IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 42 BY EDUCATION COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 COMMENDING PICABO STREET FOR HER SUPERIOR CONDUCT AND FOR HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS 3 AT THE 1998 WINTER OLYMPICS AT NAGANO, JAPAN. 4 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 5 WHEREAS, Picabo Street was born and raised in the heart of Idaho; and 6 WHEREAS, Picabo Street learned to ski on the slopes of Mt. Baldy in 7 Ketchum and still lives in the Wood River Valley; and 8 WHEREAS, Picabo Street has devoted her life to being a world-class skier; 9 and 10 WHEREAS, Picabo Street has achieved her goals with inspiring success; and 11 WHEREAS, Picabo Street won a silver medal in the 1994 Winter Olympics, 12 many World Cup downhill ski races, a Crystal Globe award symbolic of World Cup 13 skiing supremacy, and most recently a gold medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, Picabo Street has reached the peak of her skills; and 16 WHEREAS, Picabo Street has climbed to the top of her profession in the 17 face of great adversity, including a debilitating knee injury in December 18 1996, that threatened to end her career and a concussion in January 1998, that 19 threatened her performance at the 1998 Winter Olympics; and 20 WHEREAS, Picabo Street fought back with exemplary strength, focus and 21 determination and recovered completely from both injuries; and 22 WHEREAS, Picabo Street is respected throughout the world as a fierce com- 23 petitor on the slopes but as a friendly compatriot when the race is over; and 24 WHEREAS, Picabo Street is a positive role model for us all; and 25 WHEREAS, Picabo Street's performance in the 1998 Winter Olympics makes 26 Americans look eagerly to the Winter Olympics to be held in Salt Lake City, 27 Utah, in the year 2002, an event that should have many positive effects in the 28 state of Idaho. 29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses- 30 sion of the Fifty-fourth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and 31 the Senate concurring therein, that we recognize and honor Picabo Street for 32 her superior attitude and conduct, her medal winning performance at the 1998 33 Winter Olympics at Nagano, Japan, and for the pride she brings to Idaho and 34 America.
