
The Idaho House of Representatives is now accepting applications for the 2026 Legislative Session. These temporary, full-time positions will run from January 12 through late March or early April 2026, with paid training sessions during the week of January 5-9.
DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant must be outgoing and able to interact with staff and the public in a pleasant and professional manner. The positions require proficiency with Microsoft Word as well as excellent grammar and spelling skills. They also require the ability to work under pressure, be well organized and detail oriented, and handle correspondence, telephone calls, and e-mails. Dependability is critical. Typing speed of 60+ wpm and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook are preferred but not required. Minute-taking experience is helpful, especially for committee secretaries. Orientation and full training are provided, including paid compensation for this time.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED and experience in an office setting required; executive/administrative assistant background a plus. Resume must include references.
COMPENSATION: Wages start at $21.05 per hour, but can be more depending on experience and specific assignments.
POSITIONS AVAILABLE:
Committee Secretary – Assigned to a specific House Committee/Chairman and responsible for minutes, reports and agendas, processing legislation, scheduling, correspondence, organizing, and filing.
Pool Secretary – Secretarial support for an office area group of Representatives, providing assistance in scheduling, correspondence, organizing, and entering Statement of Purpose/Fiscal Notes. May also assist with committee minutes and special projects.
Majority Staff Assistant – Secretarial support to House Majority Leadership.
Minority Staff Assistant – Secretarial support to Democrat House members; duties may include research, bill tracking, scheduling, and constituent services.
Doorkeeper – Acts as gatekeeper and first point of contact for visitors to the House.
Journal Clerk – Works in the Chief Clerk’s Office. Responsible for creating and editing the daily record of House floor proceedings, as well as creating the daily bill reading calendars.
