Session Job Opportunities

The Idaho Legislature employs approximately 70 to 80 people during legislative sessions to fill various support positions. These full-time seasonal positions typically begin early January and end around the first of April.

The Idaho Senate is now accepting applications for the 2024 Legislative Session. Below are basic descriptions and examples of the openings we are seeking to fill:

Journal Clerk: Responsible to record each day’s proceedings in the Senate Journal and publishes the daily journal to the legislative website every night. Maintains and files all reports and official documents of the daily proceedings. Has a basic understanding of the Senate Rules and parliamentary process.

Assistant Clerk/Minutes Editor: Assists on the Senate floor during the daily proceedings. Reviews and edits all Senate Committee minutes to make sure they align with the committee agenda, are correctly formatted, and do not have any typographical errors.

Committee Secretaries: Serves as the secretary for the assigned Senate Standing Committee and is responsible for writing and transcribing the minutes, creating committee reports and agendas. Assists the Chair with drafting documents, research, constituent services, scheduling, filing, and organizing.

Majority Staff Assistants: Serves as the secretary to three/four Senators and are responsible for drafting documents, research, constituent services, scheduling, filing, and organizing. May also assist in writing committee minutes.

Minority Staff Assistants: Legislative aide to Democratic Senators; responsible for drafting documents, research, constituent services, scheduling, and bill tracking.
