STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 10740 This bill addresses what is an inconsistency in the law when a person has a license suspension in another state. In Idaho, once you have performed whatever penalty you have, after three (3) years you can obtain or renew a license because the offense goes off our system. However, a license suspension from another state never falls off the system, and the person cannot renew or obtain a license in Idaho without first getting a license in that other state, even though they no longer reside there. This bill would be more restrictive thar Idaho is by requiring that in addition to any specific period of suspension five (5) years must pass before a person can obtain or renew an Idaho license. However, it would allow Idaho residents to get their Idaho licenses without having to get a new license in another state. FISCAL IMPACT There is no fiscal impact.
