1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE CONCERNING THE DEDICATED CORPS OF STATE
3 EMPLOYEES AND DESIGNATING MAY 7 THROUGH 11 AS IDAHO PUBLIC EMPLOYEE RECOG-
4 NITION WEEK.
5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
6 WHEREAS, in the name of service to the state of Idaho and its citizens,
7 public employees have, with their commitment to excellence and diversity of
8 skills, made great contributions to this society in areas such as: keeping our
9 highways open in the winter and in tip-top shape throughout the year; provid-
10 ing the highest caliber of statewide police protection; maintaining our parks
11 and forests; helping us cope with emergencies; helping us guard against con-
12 tagious disease; protecting our air and land against pollution; furnishing
13 guidance to the youthful and the elderly; providing essential training to the
14 deaf, the blind and the handicapped; advancing our education through our state
15 schools and colleges; giving vital assistance to public libraries all over the
16 state; keeping farmers informed on the latest agricultural developments and
17 assisting them in marketing problems; working with us to develop new products
18 to preserve and boost the state's economy; bringing educational programs into
19 our homes through television, radio and online programs; and
20 WHEREAS, the effectiveness and efficiency of government depends in large
21 measure on public employees, whose task it is to provide a broad range of ser-
22 vices of the quality and quantity required and expected by the public on a
23 daily basis; and
24 WHEREAS, the importance of public service rendered by public employees and
25 the exemplary manner of their performance are too often forgotten, ignored or
26 underestimated; and
27 WHEREAS, the state of Idaho recognizes the dedication, talents and contri-
28 butions made to the state by public employees in all levels of government and
29 the Idaho Legislature finds it fitting to set aside a special time to honor
30 and thank these dedicated individuals who perform such a vital role in all our
31 lives.
32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses-
33 sion of the Fifty-sixth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Repre-
34 sentatives concurring therein, that we proclaim the week of May 7 through 11,
35 2002, as "IDAHO PUBLIC EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION WEEK" in Idaho, asking the Gover-
36 nor, along with governors of other states across the nation to sign a procla-
37 mation on Wednesday, May 9, 2002, asking department heads of state entities to
38 give special recognition of their employees during that week and urging the
39 citizens to give the proper recognition, support, commendation and thanks to
40 these dedicated public servants who go the extra mile to help us attain a good
41 quality of life.
