]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-seventh Legislature Second Regular Session - 2004IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 53 BY WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND ACKNOWLEDGING THE RECORD OF ACCOM- 3 PLISHMENT AND THE PROMISE FOR THE FUTURE OF THE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER 4 EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF IDAHO. 5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 6 WHEREAS, the people of the state of Idaho are justifiably proud of our 7 rich tradition of quality institutions of higher education; and 8 WHEREAS, the University of Idaho was created in 1889 by the 15th Territo- 9 rial Legislature and is a publicly supported comprehensive land-grant institu- 10 tion; and 11 WHEREAS, the University maintains a record of excellence in research and 12 instructional programs; and 13 WHEREAS, Idaho State University, founded in 1901 as the Academy of Idaho, 14 advanced to status as a university in 1963, and is a leader in Idaho in health 15 professions as well as an inclusive university curriculum; and 16 WHEREAS, Boise State University was founded in 1932, attained its current 17 university status in 1974, and is now central to all-encompassing educational 18 and cultural opportunities in the state's capitol city; and 19 WHEREAS, the College of Southern Idaho, Eastern Idaho Technical College, 20 Lewis-Clark State College and North Idaho College further enhance delivery of 21 higher educational opportunities in Idaho; and 22 WHEREAS, recent exemplary contributions of Acting-President Gary Michael 23 and the selection of Timothy White portend a luminous and exciting future for 24 the University of Idaho; and 25 WHEREAS, Boise State University President Robert Kustra, also newly 26 arrived in Idaho, and Idaho State University President Richard Bowen, who con- 27 tinues his dedicated service, and the leaders of each of the institutions in 28 Idaho contribute to the health of the system of higher education with ideas 29 and innovations which continue to invigorate the system and improve the pro- 30 grams available to students in Idaho; and 31 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize and commend these institutions and 32 their leaders at this time as there are changes and innovations which will 33 continue to advance the itinerary of higher education in Idaho, where contin- 34 ued cooperation will compliment individual efforts, and where achievements 35 will redound to the benefit of all Idahoans. 36 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses- 37 sion of the Fifty-seventh Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and 38 the Senate concurring therein, that we extend our acknowledgement of the 39 record of accomplishment and the promise for the future of the institutions of 40 higher education in the state of Idaho. We pledge our continued interest and 41 support of these programs and welcome the opportunity which is ours to 42 invigorate the system with an infusion of new ideas.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 14182 This concurrent resolution recognizes the rich tradition of quality institutions of higher education in Idaho. It further welcomes our new university presidents, Robert Kustra of Boise State University, and Timothy White of the University of Idaho. It further extends appreciation and thanks to University of Idaho's Acting President, Gary Michael, for his exemplary contribution to the University of Idaho. FISCAL IMPACT None. Contact Name: Rep.
