SERVICE OFFICERS TO AID VETERANS OR DEPENDENTS. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 11029 This measure is intended to provide medical and other badly needed assistance to our veterans to whom we owe so much but who are being neglected in many cases and in many areas. It will expand the number of veterans service officers in the state so veterans can more easily get medical attention and information on benefits they are due. FISCAL IMPACT The funding will come from the General Fund to set up these offices and hire the officers and support staff for a total of six FTE’s (full time employees). The first year the cost will be $597,300. In subsequent years, the cost will be reduced to $536,500. After the program is in place, the officers will be able to access available federal money to assist those people who are being left out and who are not receiving payment for medical care and for their many other needs. These federal funds should be received in an amount that will far exceed the state funding necessary for the program. Contact Name: Sen.
