The Redistricting Commission held its final meeting and delivered Plan L93 to the Secretary of State’s office on January 30, 2012. The Plan goes into immediate effect for future elections.

Pursuant to the order of the Idaho Supreme Court, under Idaho Code 72-1501(2), the Second Commission will reconvene on January 26, 2012, in order to revise Plan L87.

The Idaho Supreme Court has scheduled arguments to be heard in the Twin Falls challenge to Plan L87 for January 5, 2012.
A second lawsuit against L87 was filed with the Idaho Supreme Court on December 7, 2011.

On November 16, 2011, a challenge was filed with the Idaho Supreme Court by Twin Falls County to Plan L87, the legislative redistricting plan adopted by the Redistricting Commission on October 14, 2011. We are awaiting an order from the Idaho Supreme Court.

The Redistricting Commission completed its work on October 18. No further meetings are scheduled.

On October 17, 2011, the Redistricting Commission adopted C52 on a 4-2 vote
as the plan for Idaho’s new congressional districts.

On October 14, 2011, the Redistricting Commission unanimously adopted L87
as the plan for Idaho’s new legislative districts.

The 2011 Redistricting Commissioners were unable to agree on a legislative or a congressional redistricting plan and failed to submit any plans to the Secretary of State as required by law. After their 90-day deadline passed, the Secretary of State filed a lawsuit with the Idaho Supreme Court, as did the GOP commissioners. The Supreme Court held that it lacked jurisdiction because no plan had been filed, and therefore dismissed the GOP commissioners’ suit, and denied some of the Secretary of State’s requested relief, but held that the Secretary of State could convene a new commission. The Secretary of State issued an order on September 13, 2011, convening a second 2011 Redistricting Commission, and starting the clock on another 90-day period.

The Idaho Legislative Services Office, the non-partisan staff for the 2011 Idaho Redistricting Commission, is pleased to announce the release of MAPTITUDE ONLINE FOR REDISTRICTING on Friday, May 6, 2011, at noon. Maptitude Online for Redistricting is the online version of the software the Commission will be using to redraw the congressional and legislative district boundaries this summer.
The State of Idaho is proud of its history of providing unequaled public access to its political redistricting process, for which it received a national award after the 2001 redistricting cycle. We hope to encourage active participation by the public in the redistricting process by providing this online software that can be used by anyone with a computer and internet connection.
Although the Commission will not convene before June 7, 2011, the public is invited to begin using the Maptitude program to draw redistricting maps to submit to the Commission.

At this time, we expect to have the Maptitude Online Redistricting program, ready and operational with the brand new data, on our web site late April or early May. As soon as it is ready to go, we will announce it here.
