Session Job Opportunities

The Idaho Legislature employs approximately 70 to 80 people during legislative sessions to fill various support positions. These full-time seasonal positions typically begin early January and end around the first of April.

The Idaho Senate is now accepting applications for the 2025 Legislative Session. Below are basic descriptions and examples of the openings we are seeking to fill:

Assistant Clerk/Minutes Editor: Assists on the Senate floor during the daily proceedings. Reviews and edits all Senate Committee minutes to make sure they align with the committee agenda, are correctly formatted, and do not have any typographical errors.

Committee Secretaries: Serves as the secretary for the assigned Senate Standing Committee and is responsible for writing and transcribing the minutes, creating committee reports and agendas. Assists the Chair with drafting documents, research, constituent services, scheduling, filing, and organizing.

Majority Staff Assistants: Serves as the secretary to three/four Senators and are responsible for drafting documents, research, constituent services, scheduling, filing, and organizing. May also assist in writing committee minutes.

Minority Staff Assistants: Legislative aide to Democratic Senators; responsible for drafting documents, research, constituent services, scheduling, and bill tracking.

Responsibilities and Duties (varies depending on position offered:

    • Maintain Senator’s Calendar and schedule appointments.
    • Filing and records maintenance.
    • Maintain and update committee reports, records, and minutes.
    • Transcription and minutes preparation.
    • Draft correspondence, newsletters, and social media announcements.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Applicants Should Possess:

    • A passion for public service.
    • Superior communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
    • Strong organizational skills, as well as extraordinary attention to detail.
    • Ability to be flexible and resourceful under pressure.
    • Can exercise professional judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
    • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while working in a fast-paced, high pressure legislative environment.
    • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
    • Knowledge of general office procedures.
    • Have the aptitude to learn new processes and computer applications.
    • Preferred candidates will have some college and/or applicable legislative experience and/or at least one year of clerical or secretarial work experience.
