SCR138|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-fourth Legislature Second Regular Session - 1998IN THE SENATE SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 138 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 COMMENDING MUFFY DAVIS FOR HER DETERMINATION AND COMMITMENT AND HER MEDAL 3 WINNING PERFORMANCE AT THE 1998 PARALYMPICS AT NAGANO, JAPAN. 4 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 5 WHEREAS, Muffy Davis has lived in Idaho since the age of six and is now a 6 resident of Idaho; and 7 WHEREAS, Muffy Davis trained and competed on the slopes at Sun Valley and 8 dreamed of competing in the Olympics until a training accident resulted in 9 paralysis; and 10 WHEREAS, despite her injuries, Muffy Davis was not willing to give up her 11 dream of Olympic competition but redirected her efforts and learned to ski on 12 a monoski adapted for her specific injuries; and 13 WHEREAS, Muffy Davis pursued her goals skiing in the Paralympics and, 14 along with 1,200 world athletes, competed in Nagano in the 1998 Paralympics; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, Muffy Davis won a bronze medal in the slalom at Nagano and is now 17 looking forward to further competition again as a member of the U. S. National 18 Disabled team and plans to compete in Salt Lake City in 2002; and 19 WHEREAS, Muffy Davis is an inspirational example of determination and com- 20 mitment and demonstrates perseverance which we could all emulate; and 21 WHEREAS, Muffy Davis has accomplished her goals in many ways, including 22 her graduation from Stanford with a degree with honors in human biology; and 23 WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the Legislature, speaking on behalf of the 24 people of the state of Idaho, recognize the positive example and role model 25 set by Muffy Davis through her exemplary accomplishments. 26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses- 27 sion of the Fifty-fourth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Repre- 28 sentatives concurring therein, that we recognize and honor Muffy Davis for her 29 determination and commitment, her medal winning performance at the 1998 30 Paralympics at Nagano, Japan, and for the pride she brings to Idaho and Amer- 31 ica.
