It provides an additional $500,000 in dedicated fund spending authority to the Crime Victims Compensation Program. This program provides reasonable financial compensation to innocent victims of crime who suffer injury or death as a direct result of criminal acts. Due to an internal reorganization that allows faster claims processing, and an increase in the number of claims, the Crime Victims Compensation Program expects to expend its trustee/benefit payment spending authority by the end of the third quarter of FY 1998. This supplemental appropriation will allow continued benefit payments to eligible claimants throughout the remainder of the year. These dedicated funds are generated primarily by fines on misdemeanor and felony convictions. Contact: Ross Borden Legislative Services Office Budget & Policy Analysis Telephone: 334-4745
