                                      BY MR. SPEAKER
Requested by: Division of Building Safety, Electrical Bureau

 1 AN ACT
2 RELATING TO THE IDAHO ELECTRICAL BOARD; AMENDING SECTION 54-1001, IDAHO CODE,
3 TO UPDATE REFERENCES TO THE NATIONAL CODES ADOPTED BY THE IDAHO ELECTRICAL
 4 BOARD.

5 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:

6 SECTION 1. That Section 54-1001, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby
7 amended to read as follows:

8 54-1001. DECLARATION OF POLICY. From and after the taking effect of this

14 the same cover both fire and personal injury hazards, and the National
15 Electrical Safety Code as published by the Institute of Electrical and Elec-
16 tronics Engineers, Inc. and approved by the American National Standards Insti-
17 tute, and as the National Electrical Code and the National Elec-

                             RS08340
Remove "of 1971" from Idaho Code 54-1001. This phrase is
unnecessary and confusing. The statute is clear that, as the
National Electrical Code is revised, it must be adopted by the
Idaho State Electrical Board, by administrative rule, before it can
be used as the standard for electrical installations in the state.

Also, incorporate new language to clarify and encompass that
electrical installations shall comply with the safety standards of
the National Electrical Code as adopted by the National Fire
Protection Association, Inc. and approved by the American National
Standards Institute, and the National Electrical Safety Code as
published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers,
Inc. and approved by the American National Standards Institute.
                         FISCAL IMPACT
