                                      IN THE SENATE

                           SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 128

                             BY JUDICIARY AND RULES COMMITTEE

 1                               A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
 2    STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND RECOGNIZING AND  HONORING  THE  MIGHTY
 3        EIGHTH  AIR  FORCE  HERITAGE MUSEUM AND ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PEOPLE OF
 4        THIS NATION AND DIRECTING THE SECRETARY OF THE SENATE TO DELIVER A COPY OF
 5        THIS RESOLUTION.

 6    Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:

 7        WHEREAS, the Eighth Air Force has admirably served the United States since
 8    its inception fifty-six years ago and has become the largest air force in his-
 9    tory; and
10        WHEREAS, the Mighty Eighth played such a vital role in the defeat of  Nazi
11    Germany  in World War II, and has since continued to be a factor in the Korean
12    War, the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War; and
13        WHEREAS, today, the Eighth Air Force, headquartered at Barksdale AFB, Lou-
14    isiana, continues its distinguished service as a unit of the Air  Combat  Com-
15    mand at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia; and
16        WHEREAS,  since  1942,  over  one million Americans, many of them from the
17    state of Idaho, have served their country in the Eighth Air Force; and
18        WHEREAS, some units of the Eighth Air Force were  activated  in  Idaho  at
19    Gowen  Field  including  the  445th Bombardment Group consisting of the 700th,
20    701st, 702nd and 703rd Bombardment Squadrons; and
21        WHEREAS, in honor of the men and women who served in the Eighth Air Force,
22    the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum is  a  memorial  and  monument  to
23    those  men and women who did not return from war and to the survivors who con-
24    tinue to make contributions to this country; and
25        WHEREAS, the Mighty Eighth Air Force Heritage Museum is  recognized  as  a
26    national treasure that is essential in educating our young people.
27        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session
28    of  the Fifty-fifth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Representa-
29    tives concurring therein, that we recognize and honor the  Mighty  Eighth  Air
30    Force Heritage Museum and its contributions to the people of this nation.
31        BE  IT  FURTHER  RESOLVED  that the Secretary of the Senate be, and she is
32    hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Mighty Eighth  Air
33    Force Heritage Museum.

Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

                             RS09138

The purpose of this resolution is to honor those Air Force
personnel from Idaho who served in the Eighth Air Force. By
recognizing these personnel through this resolution approved by the
55th Legislature of the State of Idaho and placed in the Eighth Air
Force Museum, that recognition and honor will have been achieved.
