SCR123|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-fifth Legislature First Regular Session - 1999IN THE SENATE SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 123 BY FINANCE COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND AUTHORIZING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 3 FACILITY ON THE CAMPUS OF IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY TO BE KNOWN AS THE "L. E. 4 & THELMA E. STEPHENS PERFORMING ARTS CENTER." 5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 6 WHEREAS, there is a strong demand for a performing arts center at Idaho 7 State University; and 8 WHEREAS, the State Board of Education has approved the construction of a 9 performing arts center to be located on the campus of Idaho State University 10 in Pocatello; and 11 WHEREAS, construction costs will be from contributions to the Idaho State 12 University Foundation, including funds from the University's Centennial Capi- 13 tal Campaign; and 14 WHEREAS, in recognition of the substantial gifts and pledges of more than 15 ten million dollars in support of this project by L. E. and Thelma Stephens, 16 the State Board of Education has approved naming the performing arts center 17 the "L.E. & Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center." 18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session 19 of the Fifty-fifth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Representa- 20 tives concurring therein, that pursuant to Section 33-3805A, Idaho Code, 21 approval is hereby granted to the State Board of Education, acting as trustees 22 for Idaho State University, to construct a facility on the campus of Idaho 23 State University to be known as the "L.E. & Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts 24 Center."
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS08918 The purpose of this resolution is to provide authorization to the State Board of Education to allow Idaho State University to proceed with construction of a facility on the ISU campus to be known as the L.E. & Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center pursuant to the requirements of Section 33-3805A Idaho Code. FISCAL NOTE Funding for construction of the Center will come from private funds which are anticipated to be $20 to $30 million. When construction is complete and the state assumes ownership, Idaho State University will request additional General Funds for "new occupancy costs" which involve the custodial, utility and maintenance costs of operating the facility.
