HR004|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-fifth Legislature Second Regular Session - 2000IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 COMMENDING FOUR IDAHO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ACHIEVED NATIONAL RECOGNITION 3 FOR OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEER SERVICE. 4 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Idaho: 5 WHEREAS, four Idaho high school students have achieved national recogni- 6 tion for outstanding volunteer service in competition with 20,000 students 7 nationwide; and 8 WHEREAS, these students, Sandy Short of Bonners Ferry, Tiffany Ringold and 9 Pam Rogers of Lewiston, and Claire Chandler of Boise, have demonstrated excep- 10 tional leadership and dedication, making an important contribution to their 11 communities; and 12 WHEREAS, the success of our citizens and the strength of our communities 13 depend in large measure upon the dedication of such young people; and 14 WHEREAS, the competition and recognition sponsored by the National Associ- 15 ation of Secondary School Principals and the Prudential Insurance Company 16 encourages volunteer efforts by American youth; and 17 WHEREAS, Sandy, a senior at Bonners Ferry High School, created and directs 18 a youth theater group and summer theater workshops; and 19 WHEREAS, Tiffany, a ninth grader at Sacajawea Junior High School in Lewis- 20 ton, prepared and distributed educational toy packets to needy children after 21 organizing a fund-raising campaign to purchase the toys; and 22 WHEREAS, Pam, a senior at Lewiston High School, has volunteered more than 23 800 hours to organize and lead environmental activities; and 24 WHEREAS, Claire, a senior at Boise High School, created "lunch buddies," a 25 mentoring program that encourages high school students to share lunch, laughs, 26 advice and a caring ear with at-risk elementary students once a week during 27 the school year. 28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the House of Representa- 29 tives, assembled in the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-fifth Idaho Legis- 30 lature, that the Idaho House of Representatives recognizes and honors these 31 students and commends all of the many Idaho students who volunteer time for 32 community service.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 10132 This resolution would recognize the achievements of four Idaho students who won recognition for community service in a national awards program sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and by the Prudential Insurance Company. Sandy Short of Bonners Ferry and Tiffany Ringold of Lewiston were named Idaho's top two volunteers. Claire Chandler of Boise and Pam Rogers of Lewiston were also recognized as distinguished finalists. More than 20,000 high school and middle level students were considered for awards.
