       STATE OF IDAHO, AND URGING THAT THE LEWISTON MORNING TRIBUNE CONTINUE TO

   Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:

       WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Idaho is composed of citizen leg-
   islators whose authority is derived from the people of the state whom they
   represent; and
       WHEREAS, the Legislature meets in the state capital, Boise, which is
   geographically distant from much of the state and separated from the citizens;
   and
       WHEREAS, the Legislature has continually sought to bring the citizens
   closer to the business conducted in Boise through more open meetings, more
   public debate, and greater access through telephone, computer and other con-
   nections; and
       WHEREAS, among the most traditional, yet most effective, means of communi-
   cation, the daily newspaper ranks as a superior resource to  the  Legislature;
   and
       WHEREAS, traditionally, the newspapers from throughout the state have been
   delivered to the Legislature to facilitate the sense of community created by
   daily contact with the issues and people at home; and
       WHEREAS, the Lewiston Morning Tribune has been a reliable connection with
   the northern portions of the state and has been a leading source of local and
   state information and perspective.
       NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses-
   sion of the Fifty-fifth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Repre-
   sentatives concurring therein, that we express our appreciation for the deliv-
   ery of the Lewiston Morning Tribune and the other local newspapers which have
   been provided to the Legislature. We further express our concern that the Lew-
   iston Morning Tribune will no longer be delivered and will leave a significant
   void in the information resources provided to the Legislature. We urge and
   request that the practice of delivering the Lewiston Morning Tribune be con-
   tinued in order to sustain the essential access to the widest possible range
   of information and viewpoint.
