1 A HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 RECOMMENDING INTRASTATE ATHLETIC COMPETITIONS AMONG THE BASKETBALL TEAMS OF
3 THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO, BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY AND IDAHO STATE UNIVERSITY
4 ON AN ANNUAL BASIS FOR BOTH MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAMS.
5 Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Idaho:
6 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives recognizes that competitions held
7 for various sporting events at the university level are conducted in several
8 different conferences;
9 WHEREAS, these multi-conference competitions also occur within the same
11 WHEREAS, it is now rare that Idaho universities compete against one
12 another in the same sport;
13 WHEREAS, it is important to alumni groups as well as the students partici-
14 pating in the various sport programs that Idaho universities compete with one
15 another on a regular basis;
16 WHEREAS, the House of Representatives encourages intrastate athletic
17 competitions in the same sport by teams from the University of Idaho, Boise
18 State University and Idaho State University.
19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the House of Representa-
20 tives, assembled in the First Regular Session of the Fifty-sixth Idaho Legis-
21 lature, that we enthusiastically recommend annually scheduling men's and
22 women's basketball games so that in each year there is a men's basketball game
23 between the University of Idaho and Boise State University, between the Uni-
24 versity of Idaho and Idaho State University, and between Boise State Univer-
25 sity and Idaho State University; and there is a women's basketball game
26 between the University of Idaho and Boise State University, between the Uni-
27 versity of Idaho and Idaho State University, and between Boise State Univer-
28 sity and Idaho State University.
29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the location of the games shall rotate from
30 one university to the next in each succeeding year, for each of the men's and
31 the women's games.
32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature acknowledges the costs
33 involved to each sports program in the implementation of this recommendation,
34 but nonetheless aspires to create healthy, regional competitions in basketball
35 and eventually other sports as economics allow.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
The purpose of this resolution is to encourage the state's
universities to maintain intercollegiate competition whenever
