Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

                            RS 11022

trauma is the leading cause of death among young Idahoans (age 1-44). It also ranks
among the top four causes of death in Idaho across all age groups. In the pediatric
population, there is no disease that even approximates the morbidity and mortality of
traumatic injury.

Numerous studies throughout the United States have demonstrated that organized
trauma care improves patient outcomes, thus reducing the frequency of preventable death
and improving functional status of the patient. This legislation creates a trauma advisoiy
committee to assess Idaho s response to trauma and to evaluate possible improvements in
trauma care.

                     FISCAL IMPACT

Approximately $15,000 for meeting attendance reimbursements.
