STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 11062 This legislation allows the continued use of social service designees in skilled nursing facilities and intermediate care facilities for the mentally retarded by removing the sunset mechanisms that are currently in law. Without this exception, smaller rural facilities will be required to employ a Licensed Social Worker full-time at significantly increased cost. This change will allow social service designees, when supervised by a qualified social worker, to continue to provide social services in these facilities. FISCAL IMPACT Continuing use of social service designees will help avoid unnecessary increases in Medicaid expenditures in long-term care facilities.
