STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 11623 It is critical that public confidence in the election process be maintained at the highest level. Under current law the election of school board trustees is held one week before the May primary election date. Voters are often confused and do not realize the election of school trustees occurs one week before the nomination/election of all other candidates. This legislation will enable the maximum number of citizens to participate in trustee elections by eliminating the current requirement to make a separate trip to the polls on a separate date. FISCAL IMPACT There will be no fiscal impact on the general fund of the state. Some savings may be realized on the local level by eliminating the need to conduct a separate election.
