  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS; AMENDING CHAPTER 4, TITLE 50, IDAHO CODE,  BY
  3        THE  ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 50-479, IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE FOR APPLICA-
  4        TION OF PERSUASIVE POLL REQUIREMENTS TO CERTAIN MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS.
                                                                        
  5    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  6        SECTION 1.  That Chapter 4, Title 50, Idaho Code,  be,  and  the  same  is
  7    hereby  amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des-
  8    ignated as Section 50-479, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
                                                                        
  9        50-479.  APPLICATION OF PERSUASIVE POLL REQUIREMENTS.  The  provisions  of
 10    section 67-6629, Idaho Code, requiring that the identity of a person or entity
 11    paying  for a persuasive poll must be disclosed, are hereby made applicable to
 12    all elections for mayor and councilman in cities of sixteen thousand  (16,000)
 13    or more population.

                     STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                               
                           RS 11999
                               
The purpose of this legislation is to apply the requirements in
section 67 6629 to municipal elections in cities of 16,000 people or
more. This section says that persons conducting a persuasive or
"push" poll must disclose the name and telephone number of the person
or group requesting or financing the poll.

There is no fiscal impact to the general fund.
