Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                            RS 12151

This legislation provides the opportunity for a school district
to establish and be funded for the operation of an alternative
secondary summer school program, regardless of the district
offering an alternative program during the traditional nine-month
school year.

                          FISCAL IMPACT

Since the current statute does not provide funding for a "stand
alone" alternative secondary summer program, it is difficult to
determine how many such schools might be established. The fiscal
impact to the state's general fund would be zero; however, the
generation of additional support units will impact the
distribution of funds to the local school districts through the
formula based on the public school appropriation.
