  1                               A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  2    STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND  RECOGNIZING  FEBRUARY  6  AS  "RONALD
  3        REAGAN DAY."
                                                                        
  4    Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  5        WHEREAS,  President  Ronald  Wilson  Reagan,  a  man of humble background,
  6    worked throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good, hav-
  7    ing been employed as an entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Gover-
  8    nor of California and President of the United States; and
  9        WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor for two terms as the 40th  Presi-
 10    dent  of the United States of America; for his second term, he earned the con-
 11    fidence of three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of  the  50
 12    states  in  the  1984 general election--a record unsurpassed in the history of
 13    American presidential elections; and
 14        WHEREAS, in Idaho, Ronald Reagan won sixty-six percent of the popular vote
 15    for President in 1980 and seventy-two percent of the popular vote  for  Presi-
 16    dent in 1984, which in both instances was the second highest percentage of the
 17    vote for President Reagan during those elections; and
 18        WHEREAS,  in  1981,  when  Ronald  Reagan  was  inaugurated  President, he
 19    inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by rampant inflation and high  unem-
 20    ployment; and
 21        WHEREAS, during his presidency Mr. Reagan worked in a bipartisan manner to
 22    enact  his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to govern-
 23    ment which led to an unprecedented  economic  expansion  and  opportunity  for
 24    millions of Americans; and
 25        WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the
 26    nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and
 27        WHEREAS,  President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces contributed to
 28    the restoration of pride in America, her values and  those  cherished  by  the
 29    free world, and prepared America's armed forces to win the Gulf War; and
 30        WHEREAS,  President Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led to the
 31    end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union,  guaranteeing
 32    basic human rights for millions of people; and
 33        WHEREAS,  on  February 6, 2002, Ronald Reagan will have reached the age of
 34    ninety-one years thus becoming the oldest living former President.
 35        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second  Regular  Ses-
 36    sion  of  the  Fifty-sixth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and
 37    the Senate concurring therein, that we hereby recognize February 6, 2002,  and
 38    subsequent yearly anniversaries thereafter, as "Ronald Reagan Day."

                    STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                          RS 11860

The purpose of this concurrent resolution is to honor President 
Ronald Reagan for his many accomplishments while in office and 
recognize February 6, 2002, and subsequent yearly anniversaries 
thereafter, as “Ronald Reagan Day.”
