Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                            RS 13563
The purpose of this legislation is to allow school districts who
contract school bus transportation services the opportunity, on a
one-time basis, to renew the transportation contract with the
current contractor. If the school district finds, after
renegotiation, that the terms are satisfactory the school
district would be allowed to renew the contract for up to five
(5) years.
This legislation would provide the current contractor the
opportunity to potentially extend the contract tenure and help
assist in capital purchase amortization.
                          FISCAL IMPACT
There is no known impact on the General Fund, but it would be
hoped that it would reduce contract costs and lower overall state
transportation costs.
