  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO THE IMPORTATION OF CATTLE; AMENDING CHAPTER  2,  TITLE  25,  IDAHO
  3        CODE, BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 25-220, IDAHO CODE, TO PROHIBIT THE
  4        IMPORTATION  OF  CERTAIN CATTLE INTO THE STATE OF IDAHO FROM CANADA UNLESS
  5        THE CATTLE BEAR A SPECIFIED BRAND AND HAVE A COMPUTER MICROCHIP IMPLANTED.
                                                                        
  6    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  7        SECTION 1.  That Chapter 2, Title 25, Idaho Code,  be,  and  the  same  is
  8    hereby  amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des-
  9    ignated as Section 25-220, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
                                                                        
 10        25-220.  IMPORTATION OF CATTLE -- BRAND REQUIREMENTS -- COMPUTER MICROCHIP
 11    REQUIREMENTS. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation or  its
 12    agents  or  employees to bring or cause to be brought in any manner whatsoever
 13    into this state cattle that have at any time originated in Canada  unless  the
 14    cattle  bear  the  brand "C" on the left hip, by hot iron or freeze iron, with
 15    character dimensions as provided in section 25-1141, Idaho Code, and the  cat-
 16    tle  have  a  computer  microchip  implanted  between  the  cattle scapulae as
 17    approved by the department of agriculture for tracking purposes.

Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                             RS 14139

The purpose of this legislation is to set up an identification
system by which the Agriculture Department and/or the Brand
Department can identify cattle that enter the State of Idaho from
Canada.

                          FISCAL IMPACT

None - As the Brand Department does brand inspections already.
