]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-seventh Legislature Second Regular Session - 2004IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 36 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 STATING LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS AND RECOGNIZING FEBRUARY 6 AS RONALD REAGAN DAY 3 IN IDAHO. 4 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 5 WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble background, 6 worked throughout his life serving freedom and advancing the public good, hav- 7 ing been employed as an entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Gover- 8 nor of California and President of the United States; and 9 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction for two terms as 10 the fortieth President of the United States of America, the second of which he 11 earned the confidence of three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 12 forty-nine of the fifty states in the general election -- a record unsurpassed 13 in the history of American presidential elections; and 14 WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated President, he 15 inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by rampant inflation and high unem- 16 ployment; and 17 WHEREAS, during Mr. Reagan's presidency he worked in a bipartisan manner 18 to enact his bold agenda of restoring accountability and common sense to gov- 19 ernment, which led to an unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for 20 millions of Americans; and 21 WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy agenda for the 22 nation's children helped lower crime and drug use in our neighborhoods; and 23 WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces contributed to 24 the restoration of pride in America, her values and those cherished by the 25 free world and prepared America's armed forces to meet twenty-first century 26 challenges; and 27 WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through strength" led to the 28 end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing 29 basic human rights for millions of people; and 30 WHEREAS, on February 6, 2004, Ronald Reagan will have reached the age of 31 ninety-three years. 32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses- 33 sion of the Fifty-seventh Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and 34 the Senate concurring therein, that the Legislature hereby recognizes February 35 6, 2004, and subsequent yearly anniversaries thereafter as "Ronald Reagan 36 Day."
