]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-seventh Legislature Second Regular Session - 2004IN THE SENATE SENATE BILL NO. 1214 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 AN ACT 2 RELATING TO THE APPLICATION OF CAMPAIGN EXPENDITURES REPORTING LAW TO CERTAIN 3 CITY ELECTIONS; AMENDING SECTION 50-477, IDAHO CODE, TO LOWER THE POPULA- 4 TION THRESHOLD FOR APPLICATION. 5 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 6 SECTION 1. That Section 50-477, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby 7 amended to read as follows: 8 50-477. APPLICATION OF CAMPAIGN EXPENDITURES REPORTING LAW TO CERTAIN 9 CITY ELECTIONS. The provisions of sections 67-6601 through 67-6616 and 67-6623 10 through 67-6628, Idaho Code, insofar as they relate to the reporting of cam- 11 paign contributions, are hereby made applicable to all elections for mayor and 12 councilman in cities ofsixteenfive thousand (165,000) or more population, 13 except that the city clerk shall stand in place of the secretary of state.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 13533C1 The purpose of this is bill is to have greater accountability from those seeking public office in our cities with populations of five thousand or more. This applies to campaign expenditures on certain city elections. It amends the Idaho Code Section 50- 477 to lower the population threshold for application. It relates to the reporting change of campaign contributions for all elections for mayor and councilmen in cities of five thousand or more population.
