Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
                            RS 14160C1

This bill will clarify Idaho law relating to disposition of
documents, plats, papers, written documents, instruments or books
reproduced as provided in Idaho Code 50-908. Currently, the law
provides that cities must retain originals of microfilmed or
electronically preserved documents for at least ten years. This
bill would remove the ten year limitation and allow originals of
microfilmed or electronically preserved records to be destroyed
upon resolution of the city council and approval by the Idaho
State Historical Society.

                          FISCAL IMPACT

There is no fiscal impact to the State, and fiscal impact would
be positive for cities.
