]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-seventh Legislature Second Regular Session - 2004IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 40 BY ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND ENCOURAGING IDAHO CITIZENS TO REDUCE, 3 REUSE AND RECYCLE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE AND ELECTRONIC WASTE. 4 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 5 WHEREAS, one of Idaho's greatest treasures is the exceptional environment 6 that we share; and 7 WHEREAS, the proper management of waste is key to preserving our environ- 8 ment and strengthening our economy; and 9 WHEREAS, the proper management of household hazardous waste containing 10 heavy metals and manmade constituents can help protect water supplies and our 11 environment; and 12 WHEREAS, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report dated May 11, 2001, 13 states that approximately 3.2 million tons of electronic waste ends up in 14 United States landfills each year, and that 250 million computers will become 15 obsolete in the next five years; and 16 WHEREAS, reducing and recycling household hazardous waste and electronic 17 waste can conserve our nation's resources; and 18 WHEREAS, proper waste diversion can conserve Idaho's landfill space. 19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second Regular Ses- 20 sion of the Fifty-seventh Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and 21 the Senate concurring therein, that all Idaho citizens are hereby encouraged 22 to reduce, reuse and recycle household hazardous waste and electronic waste.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 13835 The purpose of this resolution is to articulate the support of the Legislature of the State of Idaho to encourage all citizens of Idaho to reduce, reuse and recycle household hazardous and electronic waste.
