  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO FISH AND GAME; AMENDING SECTION 36-201,  IDAHO  CODE,  TO  PROVIDE
  3        THAT  ALL METHODS OF TAKE SHALL BE AUTHORIZED FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF WOLVES
  4        IN ACCORDANCE WITH EXISTING LAWS OR APPROVED MANAGEMENT  PLANS  REGARDLESS
  5        OF THE CLASSIFICATION ASSIGNED TO WOLVES.
                                                                        
  6    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  7        SECTION  1.  That  Section  36-201, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby
  8    amended to read as follows:
                                                                        
  9        36-201.  FISH AND GAME COMMISSION AUTHORIZED TO  CLASSIFY  WILDLIFE.  With
 10    the  exception  of  predatory  animals,  the Idaho fish and game commission is
 11    hereby authorized to define by classification or reclassification all wildlife
 12    in the state of Idaho. Such definitions and classifications shall include:
 13        (a)  Game animals
 14        (b)  Game birds
 15        (c)  Game fish
 16        (d)  Fur-bearing animals
 17        (e)  Migratory birds
 18        (f)  Threatened or endangered wildlife
 19        (g)  Protected nongame species
 20        (h)  Unprotected wildlife
 21        Predatory wildlife shall include:
 22        1.  Coyote
 23        2.  Jackrabbit
 24        3.  Skunk
 25        4.  Weasel
 26        5.  Starling
 27    Notwithstanding the classification assigned to wolves,  all  methods  of  take
 28    including,  but not limited to, all methods utilized by the United States fish
 29    and wildlife service and the United States department of agriculture  wildlife
 30    services,  shall be authorized for the management of wolves in accordance with
 31    existing laws or approved management plans.

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

                             RS 14806

This legislation would amend Section 36-201, Idaho Code, so that
all methods of take shall be authorized for the management of
wolves in accordance with existing laws or approved management
plans regardless of the classification assigned to wolves.
