  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO REVIEW OF CHARTER SCHOOLS; AMENDING SECTION 33-5212,  IDAHO  CODE,
  3        TO  REQUIRE  ANNUAL REVIEW AND FILING OF A REPORT WITH FINDINGS AND RECOM-
  4        MENDATIONS WITH THE SENATE AND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES EDUCATION  COMMIT-
  5        TEES.
                                                                        
  6    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  7        SECTION  1.  That  Section 33-5212, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby
  8    amended to read as follows:
                                                                        
  9        33-5212.  REVIEW. Annually, tThe state board of education shall review the
 10    educational effectiveness of charter schools  under  the  provisions  of  this
 11    chapter and shall report to the legislature not later than July 1, 2004 submit
 12    a  comprehensive report, with findings and recommendations, to the senate edu-
 13    cation committee and the house of representatives   education  committee.  The
 14    report  shall  evaluate charter schools in a general manner including, but not
 15    limited to, an evaluation of whether the charter schools are fulfilling  their
 16    intended purposes.

This legislation requires the State Board of Education to submit
a comprehensive annual report on Idaho Public Charter Schools to
the Senate and House Education Committees.  The section regarding
a review due by July 1, 2004 has been eliminated.



                          FISCAL IMPACT

The fiscal impact would be minimal.  The State Board of Education
would incur the expense of creating the report.
