                             HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 8

  1                               A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  2    STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND ENCOURAGING PROGRAMS WHICH SUPPORT AND
  3        ADVANCE THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE IN  INTERNATIONAL  STUDY  AND  CULTURAL
  4        AWARENESS.
                                                                        
  5    Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  6        WHEREAS, within the lifetime of our parents and grandparents, the world we
  7    live in has changed almost beyond recognition; and
  8        WHEREAS,  rapid  technological  innovations will provide opportunities and
  9    challenges to tomorrow's citizens not even imagined today; and
 10        WHEREAS, depletion of water tables, industrial production of carbon  diox-
 11    ide,  worldwide  deforestation,  loss  of biodiversity, rapid urbanization and
 12    loss of croplands are just a few of the significant issues which we debate  in
 13    public forum today; and
 14        WHEREAS,  addressing  the  possibilities  and  promises of the future will
 15    require the best minds, best ideas, and best efforts of all of the peoples  of
 16    the world; and
 17        WHEREAS,  bringing  awareness  through education and world experience will
 18    serve students by increasing their ability to communicate  and  interact  with
 19    the citizens of other nations; and
 20        WHEREAS,  the support of international study and educational exchange pro-
 21    grams and other activities  advance  cultural  awareness  and  promote  mutual
 22    understanding and respect for citizens of other countries; and
 23        WHEREAS,  developing  and providing curriculum materials, fostering educa-
 24    tional exchange programs, presenting other cultures, languages, economies  and
 25    systems  of  government  in an education setting will support an international
 26    perspective to world problems.
 27        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session
 28    of the Fifty-eighth Idaho Legislature, the House of  Representatives  and  the
 29    Senate  concurring therein, that the Idaho Department of Education is urged to
 30    encourage students, teachers, administrators, and educational policymakers  to
 31    support  and  advance  programs  which  further  the educational experience in
 32    international study and cultural awareness.

                       STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

                             RS 14799

The intent of this House Concurrent Resolution is to encourage
support and advance the educational experience in international
study and cultural awareness.


                           FISCAL NOTE

There will be no impact on the General Fund.
