  1                               A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  2    STATING LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS AND URGING THE  ESTABLISHMENT  AND  PROMOTION  OF
  3        PROGRAMS  TO  IMPROVE  THE  TRAINING  OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS IN THE
  4        DISCIPLINES OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE.
                                                                        
  5    Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  6        WHEREAS, before there can be children with solid education credentials  in
  7    mathematics  and science, there must be teachers in the elementary schools who
  8    can impart the needed knowledge; and
  9        WHEREAS, before there can be elementary school teachers with the  required
 10    skill  and  training  in  mathematics and science to teach the children, there
 11    must be programs at the college and university level that  will  produce  such
 12    teachers; and
 13        WHEREAS,  before  there  can be such mathematics and science educator pro-
 14    grams, there must be the commitment to establish and promote such programs.
 15        NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the Second  Regular  Ses-
 16    sion  of  the Fifty-eighth Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and
 17    the Senate concurring therein, that  Idaho's  colleges  and  universities  are
 18    urged  to  commit themselves to the establishment and promotion of programs to
 19    improve the training of  elementary school  teachers  in  the  disciplines  of
 20    mathematics and science so that Idaho's children may so benefit.

The resolution calls for the establishment and promotion of
programs to improve the training of elementary school teachers in
the disciplines of mathematics and science.



                           FISCAL NOTE

There will be no impact on the state General Fund.
