2 PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO SECTION 3, ARTICLE III, OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE
3 STATE OF IDAHO, RELATING TO TERMS OF OFFICE FOR MEMBERS OF THE STATE LEG-
4 ISLATURE TO PROVIDE THAT STATE SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES SHALL BE
5 ELECTED FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS COMMENCING AT NOON ON THE FIRST DAY OF
6 DECEMBER NEXT FOLLOWING THE GENERAL ELECTION; STATING THE QUESTION TO BE
7 SUBMITTED TO THE ELECTORATE; DIRECTING THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL TO PREPARE
8 THE STATEMENTS REQUIRED BY LAW; AND DIRECTING THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO
9 PUBLISH THE AMENDMENT AND ARGUMENTS AS REQUIRED BY LAW.
10 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
11 SECTION 1. That Section 3, Article III, of the Constitution of the State
12 of Idaho be amended to read as follows:
13 SECTION 3. TERM OF OFFICE. The senators and representatives
14 shall be elected for the term of two years, from and after commencing
15 at noon on the first day of December next following the general elec-
16 tion.
17 SECTION 2. The question to be submitted to the electors of the State of
18 Idaho at the next general election shall be as follows:
19 "Shall Section 3, Article III, of the Constitution of the State of Idaho
20 be amended to provide that state senators and representatives shall be elected
21 for a term of two years commencing at noon on the first day of December next
22 following the general election?".
23 SECTION 3. The Legislative Council is directed to prepare the statements
24 required by Section 67-453, Idaho Code, and file the same.
25 SECTION 4. The Secretary of State is hereby directed to publish this pro-
26 posed constitutional amendment and arguments as required by law.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
RS 16207
This legislation proposes amending Section 3, Article III, of the
Constitution of the State of Idaho, relating to terms of office
for members of the State Legislature to provide that State
Senators and Representatives shall be elected for a term of two
years commencing at noon on the first day of December following
the General Election.
FISCAL NOTE
The fiscal impact to the General Fund will be $50,000.00 (fifty
thousand dollars) to cover costs of placing the measure on the
ballot.
