                                     HOUSE BILL NO. 554

  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO CURRICULAR MATERIALS USED IN IDAHO PUBLIC SCHOOLS;  AMENDING  SEC-
  3        TION 33-118A, IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE FOR RETENTION OF ALL CURRICULAR MATE-
  4        RIALS  ADOPTED IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THREE YEARS AND TO PROVIDE FOR
  5        MAINTAINING A LIBRARY OF ALL  ELECTRONICALLY  AVAILABLE  CURRICULAR  MATE-
  6        RIALS.

  7    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:

  8        SECTION  1.  That  Section 33-118A, Idaho Code, be, and the same is hereby
  9    amended to read as follows:

 10        33-118A.  CURRICULAR MATERIALS  --  ADOPTION  PROCEDURES.  All  curricular
 11    materials  adoption committees appointed by the state board of education shall
 12    contain at least two (2) persons  who  are  not  public  educators  or  school
 13    trustees.  All  meetings  of curricular materials adoption committees shall be
 14    open to the public. Any member of the public may attend such meetings and file
 15    written or make oral objections to any curricular  materials  under  consider-
 16    ation. A complete and cataloged library of all curricular materials adopted in
 17    the immediately preceding three (3) years and used in Idaho public schools, is
 18    and  all  electronically  available  curricular materials used in Idaho public
 19    schools are to be maintained at the state department of education at all times
 20    and open to the public.
 21        "Curricular materials" is defined  as  textbook  and  instructional  media
 22    including software, audio/visual media and internet resources.
