                                  HOUSE PROCLAMATION NO. 3

                                 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

  1                                    A PROCLAMATION
  2    COMMENDING THE CALAM SHRINE TEMPLE ON ITS ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY.

  3        We, the members of the House of Representatives  of  the  State  of  Idaho
  4    assembled  in the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-ninth Idaho Legislature,
  5    recognize  and  commend the Calam  Shrine  Temple  in  Lewiston   on  its  one
  6    hundredth anniversary.

  7        WHEREAS, the Calam Shrine Temple was founded one hundred years ago on July
  8    15,  1908,  and  is  located  in Lewiston, has 600 members who reside in North
  9    Idaho within the jurisdiction ranging  from  Riggins  north  to  the  Canadian
 10    boundary and east and west within Idaho state boundaries; and
 11        WHEREAS,  the  Shriners  are  the  oldest  philanthropic fraternity in the
 12    United States with their first hospital having opened in 1922; and
 13        WHEREAS, the Shriners opened a hospital in Spokane,  Washington  in  1924,
 14    and having moved four times are currently in a state-of-the-art facility; and
 15        WHEREAS,  the  Shriners operate 22 hospitals for children in North America
 16    with a 2008 budget of almost $850 million; and
 17        WHEREAS, four of these hospitals  are  burn  centers  featuring  the  most
 18    advanced  pediatric  burn  care  available  and  the  other eighteen hospitals
 19    specialize in treating a number of conditions; and
 20        WHEREAS, the Shriners Hospitals specialize in treatment for children up to
 21    eighteen years of age, with care provided  at  absolutely  zero  cost  to  the
 22    patient or the patient's family; and
 23        WHEREAS, the Calam Shrine Temple conducts screening clinics throughout the
 24    Northern  Idaho  area several times a year to locate and assist local children
 25    who need certain specialized care and these clinics are advertised  throughout
 26    the school system and the medical community; and
 27        WHEREAS, in 2007, as a direct result of Calam Shriners, an additional  195
 28    deserving children of North Idaho were introduced to state-of-the-art, cutting
 29    edge pediatric medical care at no cost to themselves or their families.
 30        NOW,  THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED by the members of the House of Represen-
 31    tatives assembled in the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-ninth Idaho  Leg-
 32    islature,  that  we  recognize and commend the Calam Shrine Temple for its one
 33    hundred years of service to the citizens of Idaho.

of philanthropy and service to the children of Idaho.
