]]]] LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO ]]]] Fifty-ninth Legislature Second Regular Session - 2008IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE BILL NO. 536 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 AN ACT 2 RELATING TO STATE GOVERNMENT AND THE DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION; AMENDING 3 CHAPTER 57, TITLE 67, IDAHO CODE, BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 4 67-5711F, IDAHO CODE, TO PROVIDE LEGISLATIVE INTENT AND TO DIRECT THE 5 DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION TO COVER MURALS IN THE CAPITOL ANNEX. 6 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 7 SECTION 1. That Chapter 57, Title 67, Idaho Code, be, and the same is 8 hereby amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des- 9 ignated as Section 67-5711F, Idaho Code, and to read as follows: 10 67-5711F. LEGISLATIVE INTENT -- CAPITOL ANNEX -- ART PRESERVATION. (1) 11 The legislature of the state of Idaho recognizes that the capitol annex build- 12 ing, serving as the legislature's temporary home, houses and reflects the 13 sentiments and sensibilities of all residents of this state. The legislature 14 also recognizes that the capitol annex must serve as a welcoming and inviting 15 public space for all Idahoans. 16 (2) To ensure that the capitol annex reflects the legislature's intent 17 provided in subsection (1) of this section, the department of administration 18 is hereby directed to cover the painted murals located on the walls throughout 19 the grand stairway of the capitol annex with dry wall or wall board or such 20 other covering as to obscure and protect the murals. Such murals, created as 21 part of the United States work projects administration, Southern California 22 art project, are found on the walls between the first and second floors and 23 continue to the third floor of the capitol annex. The department of adminis- 24 tration shall implement the directive provided for in this subsection in such 25 a manner as to preserve the murals to the extent practicable.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 17759C1 This legislation intends to preserve and protect the historic art on the walls of the capitol annex by covering the murals on the walls between the first, second, and third floors.
