|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-seventh Legislature First Regular Session - 2003IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 31 BY WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 STATING FINDINGS OF THE LEGISLATURE AND SUPPORTING A REVIEW OF OUR HIGHER EDU- 3 CATION SYSTEM BY THE MEMBERS OF THE IDAHO STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND THE 4 BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF IDAHO. 5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 6 WHEREAS, there are in the state of Idaho excellent institutions of higher 7 education including universities, state colleges, community colleges, and 8 technical schools; and 9 WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the citizens of the state that the 10 educational system be governed in the most efficient manner; and 11 WHEREAS, policies and procedures could be developed to provide a greater 12 degree of convergence in the goals, programs, courses offered and credit 13 transferability at the several existing institutions; and 14 WHEREAS, the Legislature has in the past considered some of these 15 approaches and would like to take the opportunity to give further study to 16 them with the intention of implementing a more expeditious system at the ear- 17 liest opportunity; and 18 WHEREAS, the State Board of Education has recently undertaken a complete 19 review of our higher education system to maximize efficiencies and avoid 20 duplications through the coordination of program offerings and service deliv- 21 ery; and 22 WHEREAS, if cost savings could be realized through reorganization of the 23 governance structure it would be an additional advantage of a closer coopera- 24 tive structure. 25 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session 26 of the Fifty-seventh Idaho Legislature, the House of Representatives and the 27 Senate concurring therein, that we support the review of our higher education 28 system recently undertaken by the State Board of Education and the Board of 29 Regents of the University of Idaho and instruct the Board to report their 30 findings and proposed actions to the Legislature during the Second Regular 31 Session of the Fifty-seventh Idaho Legislature. 32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief Clerk of the House of Representa- 33 tives be, and she is hereby authorized and directed to forward a copy of this 34 Resolution to the members of the State Board of Education and the Board of 35 Regents of the University of Idaho.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 13290C1 This concurrent resolution supports a review of our higher education system by the Idaho State Board of Education and the Board of Regents of the University of Idaho and instructs the Idaho State Board of Education and the Board of Regents of the University of Idaho to report their findings and proposed actions to the Legislature during the Second Regular Session of the Fifty-seventh Idaho Legislature.
