STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 12550 Under current law, water and sewer district board members receive as compensation for his/her service's an amount not to exceed fifty dollars ($50.00) per meeting. This legislation would increase that maximum amount to one hundred dollars ($100) per meeting. Water and sewer district issues are becoming more complex and meetings are requiring more time to complete the intricate business of the districts. It is necessary to recruit qualified board members to conduct this business and since they are not compensated for other expenses this legislation will help off set those other expenses associated with being a board member. FISCAL IMPACT Since this legislation is permissive up to the maximum only those districts experiencing need will increase the compensation and then the increase may be less than the maximum. This makes determination of the fiscal impact non- determinable for the districts affected.
