STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 12713 This bill is necessary to authorize the Division of Veterans Services to charge fees for interment, disinterment, and reinterment in the state veterans cemetery and to place such fees in the veterans cemetery maintenance fund for use in the operation and maintenance of the cemetery. Currently, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs does not pay the costs of such services for spouses and dependents and does not pay the costs of disinterment and reinterment. This bill transfers the costs of these services to the recipients rather than reducing the funds available to operate and maintain the cemetery or requiring an additional appropriation to cover the operation and maintenance of the cemetery.FISCAL IMPACT There will be a positive fiscal impact to the Division depending on the number of non-veterans who may elect to take advantage of this benefit.
