  1                                        AN ACT
  2    RELATING TO LICENSURE OF NURSES; AMENDING CHAPTER 14, TITLE 54, IDAHO CODE, BY
  3        THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 54-1412A, IDAHO CODE, TO GOVERN LICENSURE OF
  4        FOREIGN EDUCATED NURSES.
                                                                        
  5    Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho:
                                                                        
  6        SECTION 1.  That Chapter 14, Title 54, Idaho Code, be,  and  the  same  is
  7    hereby  amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des-
  8    ignated as Section 54-1412A, Idaho Code, and to read as follows:
                                                                        
  9        54-1412A.  LICENSURE FOR FOREIGN EDUCATED NURSES. Foreign educated  nurses
 10    will be required to show evidence of having passed the commission on graduates
 11    of  foreign nursing schools screening examination prior to applying for licen-
 12    sure in Idaho except Canadian educated nurses who graduated after 1966 from  a
 13    school  approved  by a Canadian province and who have also passed the Canadian
 14    Nurses Association Testing Service (CNATS) examination  in  the  English  lan-
 15    guage.

Statement of Purpose / Fiscal Impact

                      STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

    Passage of this legislation will allow Canadian trained
    nurses to apply for an Idaho License without having to sit
    for a burdensome and expensive international nursing test.
    Idaho currently has a severe nursing shortage and this
    legislation will help Canadian trained nurses to more easily
    acquire an Idaho nursing license. 
    
    
    
                          FISCAL IMPACT
                                   There are no costs connected with this proposed legislation. 
    The board of nursing will simply change rules and or
