|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-seventh Legislature First Regular Session - 2003IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES HOUSE BILL NO. 259 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 AN ACT 2 RELATING TO THE CREATION OF A COMMEMORATIVE DAY; AMENDING CHAPTER 1, TITLE 73, 3 IDAHO CODE, BY THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION 73-108A, IDAHO CODE, TO 4 ESTABLISH APRIL 30 AS CHILDREN'S DAY/EL DIA DE LOS NINOS COMMEMORATIVE DAY 5 AND TO PROVIDE THAT COMMUNITIES ARE ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATE WITH SPECIAL 6 EVENTS AND WITH CHILDREN AS THE CENTER OF ACTIVITY. 7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 8 SECTION 1. That Chapter 1, Title 73, Idaho Code, be, and the same is 9 hereby amended by the addition thereto of a NEW SECTION, to be known and des- 10 ignated as Section 73-108A, Idaho Code, and to read as follows: 11 73-108A. CHILDREN'S DAY. April 30 shall be designated as Children's 12 Day/El Dia de los Ninos commemorative day in recognition of the importance of 13 children to families and to communities. It is a day to celebrate the value of 14 children and to focus on the importance of creating a future for children full 15 of hope, health and success. Communities are encouraged to participate with 16 special events and with children as the center of activity.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE RS 12936 This legislation would recognize April 30 as Children s Day/El Dia de los Ninos in Idaho. It would not be a legal holiday but would have status similar to Mother s Day and Father s Day. Idaho presently has no designated day recognizing the value and importance of children. Children s Day has been a tradition in many communities in the southwestern part of the United States. It has been observed by some Idaho communities.
