SCR127|||| LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF IDAHO |||| Fifty-fifth Legislature First Regular Session - 1999IN THE SENATE SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 127 BY STATE AFFAIRS COMMITTEE 1 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 2 COMMENDING THE STATE OF UTAH AND THE SALT LAKE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE FOR BRINGING 3 THE 2002 WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES TO THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST AND PLEDGING 4 IDAHO'S ASSISTANCE IN PUTTING ON THE BEST WINTER OLYMPICS IN HISTORY. 5 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Idaho: 6 WHEREAS, the state of Utah and the Salt Lake Olympic Committee (SLOC) will 7 be hosting the 2002 Winter Olympic Games; and 8 WHEREAS, the economic, social and cultural benefits of the 2002 Winter 9 Olympic Games will extend to the Intermountain West; and 10 WHEREAS, the 2002 Winter Olympic Games present an opportunity to partici- 11 pate in assisting the host state, while strengthening the economic vitality of 12 Idaho through increased development activity and visitation; and 13 WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Idaho, by virtue of Executive Order 14 authorized the establishment of an Idaho 2002 Committee; and 15 WHEREAS, this committee is to serve as the official liaison for the state 16 of Idaho with the International Olympic Committee, the Salt Lake Olympic Com- 17 mittee, the United States Olympic Committee, and other national Olympic com- 18 mittees, and sports federations; and 19 WHEREAS, the state of Idaho recognizes Utah Governor Mike Leavitt's lead- 20 ership and commitment to turning the Olympic movement from its course of money 21 and materialism to its root of altruism and athleticism, and has called on the 22 International Olympic Committee to act boldly and decisively to restore trust 23 to the Olympic movement; and 24 WHEREAS, the appointment of W. Mitt Romney as the new President and Chief 25 Executive Officer of the Salt Lake Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter 26 Games of 2002 will bring renewed vision and energy to the SLOC effort. 27 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the members of the First Regular Session 28 of the Fifty-fifth Idaho Legislature, the Senate and the House of Representa- 29 tives concurring therein, that we support the state of Utah and the Salt Lake 30 Organizing Committee for the Olympic Winter Games of 2002 in putting on the 31 best Winter Olympics in history.
